Dr. Linda Doan has been growing cut flowers in East Tennessee for 20 years on farmland gently passed down through 6 generations. Before flowers, Linda was volleyball coach and Professor of Exercise Science at Milligan University. She brought education classes to the farm for things like flower identification, map and compass navigation, and nature scavenger hunts. While still teaching at Milligan, most of her flower sales were through the Kingsport Farmer’s market, but after retiring in 2009 she added weddings, on-farm workshops, CSA’s, Farm Tours, Petals on the Porch, U-Picks, and a Farm Store. She hopes to add online courses in 2025. Several years ago she changed her farm model to on-farm only sales. Weddings, CSA’s, Petals on the Porch etc… are picked up from her walk-in cooler and events are all on the farm. She hopes to slow down and is working hard (sort of) towards that goal because she and her husband Roy have two grandchildren who are growing up way too quickly. Linda has served on the Board of the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers as Secretary and Regional Director. She credits ASCFG for most of the knowledge she’s gained about growing and cherishes the friendships that she has developed there.
